What kind of information does the GDPR apply to?

The GDPR applies to the processing of data containing the user's personal information making it possible to identify him/her. According to the CNIL, this is "any information directly or indirectly identifying a natural person", such as:

  • A name (last name, first name ...);
  • An identification number (social security number, national registration number ...);
  • Location data (IP address ...), etc.

It also includes indicators relating to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of an individual, such as a fingerprint, a voice recording or a photograph of that individual.
